Vietnam Tourist Visa Policy Overview (2024-2025)

A tourist visa is a visa issued to foreigners visiting Vietnam for holidays within a specific period. If the visa expires and the foreigner wishes to continue traveling, they can extend their stay according to the applicable policies. Foreigners can obtain a tourist visa on their own, through tourism companies, or via a visa service company.

New policy for Vietnam tourist visa

Implementing the offer of an E-visa for people from all countries and territories

E-visa duration has extended from 30 days to 3 months (not over 90 days), for either single or multiple entries.

Vietnam’s tourism visa for foreigners from visa-exempt countries has been extended from 15 days to 45 days.

Types of tourist visa following new policy.

– Visa EV 

EV is sign of Electric visa, which will have duration of 30 days to 90 days

– Visa DL 

DL is a tourist visa issued to foreigners traveling with a tour program offered by a company in Vietnam, with a duration of 30 to 90 days.

 Vietnam tourism visa exemption: 

Vietnam tourism visa exemption applies to foreigners who are granted unilateral or bilateral visa exemptions by Vietnam. The duration of exemption varies depending on the country or territory. Tourists with this visa exemption do not need to pay visa fees or complete the usual visa application procedures.

The duration of a tourism visa with unilateral or bilateral exemption is either 30 days or 45 days, depending on the country.

 Procedures required for obtaining a Vietnam tourist visa for foreigners

  1. Conditions for entry into Vietnam for travel purposes

A valid passport with at least six months of validity beyond the intended stay.

Not subject to any entry ban or restriction for entering Vietnam

Temporary residence procedure for visa waiver to Vietnam
Citizens of countries with visa exemptions do not need to apply for a visa before entering Vietnam. At the port of entry (international airport, road border gate, or seaport), immigration officers will stamp temporary residence during the immigration process

  1. Procedure for Issuing E-Visas to Foreigners

The simplest way to apply for a Vietnam visa is to obtain an electronic visa (E-Visa for Vietnam). Foreigners can visit the website of the Vietnam Immigration Department to complete the online visa application process by filling out the required information and paying the prescribed fee. The Immigration Department will issue the visa result online, which can be printed out or saved on a mobile phone. At the border checkpoint where the foreigner enters, they must present their passport along with the electronic visa file for verification and entry permission

– Visa Issuance Procedure by Travel Companies for Foreign Tourists Entering Vietnam.
A travel company with a valid travel license and appropriate tour packages can apply for a visa on behalf of foreign tourists. This is done by obtaining an approval letter for the foreigner to receive the visa either at the border checkpoint or at a Vietnamese diplomatic mission abroad (Vietnamese Embassy or Consulate).”

  1. Application for Issuing/Extending a Tourist Visa for Foreigners Staying in Vietnam
  • Visa application form for tourism (Form NA5)
  • Original passport of the foreigner applying for the visa
  • Travel itinerary and program
  • Travel company’s business license
  • Legal documents of the travel company (if submitting for the first time)
  • Letter of introduction from the travel company authorizing a representative to handle the procedure.”**
  • Submitting the Application for a Vietnam Tourist Visa.
    Foreigners and travel companies can submit the application for issuing or extending a tourist visa at the Immigration Department in Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City, as per regulations. The application can be submitted either in person or online.”
