Hanoi – Mai Chau – Ninh Binh – Halong Bay

Day 1: Hanoi city tour (B, L)
Thang Long Imperial Citadel: This citadel served as Vietnam’s imperial stronghold for over a thousand years, dating back to the establishment of the country.
Huu Tiep Lake: This site preserves the unique remains of a B52 bomber from the December 1972 battle. In addition to viewing this relic, visitors can relax with a cup of local coffee known as “B52 coffee” and observe the daily life of Hanoians.
Hoa Lo Prison: Once a prison for US pilots in Vietnam, it was famously nicknamed “Hilton Hanoi” or the “Broken Heart Hotel.”
Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum: Explore the building that houses the preserved body of Ho Chi Minh and learn about his life. Adjacent to this, you can visit a pagoda that resembles a lotus flower.
Rickshaw (Cyclos): Cyclos are an integral part of Hanoi’s traditional culture, mainly used for tourists. They provide a convenient way for tourists to explore the 36 streets of the Old Quarter, with experienced drivers who know every street.
Ngoc Son Temple: Situated on the central island of the Returned Sword Lake, this is Hanoi’s most beautiful temple. You’ll also gain insight into the feng shui beliefs of the Vietnamese people. Ngoc Son Temple is linked to the shore by The Huc Bridge, the first place in Hanoi to welcome the morning sunshine. The bridge connects to the temple through Vong Nguyet Gate (Moonlight Gate), where people believe the first moonlight touches.
Water Puppet Show: Experience this traditional and unique art form, which has developed over thousands of years in the rice culture of Vietnam. You’ll have the opportunity to sit in a theater and enjoy the delightful and captivating puppetry depicting the daily life of a rice-growing country.
Day 2: Hanoi to Mai Chau (B, L)
Leaving Hanoi at around 8 AM, you will have a 3.5-hour car ride to the southwest of Hanoi, heading to one of the most unique midland regions in Vietnam, Mai Chau district, which belongs to Hoa Binh province. This area is home to various ethnic groups in Vietnam, including the Muong people, Black Thai, and White Thai people. The road may have some gentle inclines and declines, allowing you to experience the life of the hill people in Vietnam.
Upon your arrival in Mai Chau, you will have lunch at a local house, where you can savor traditional Thai cuisine. Afterward, you will proceed to the resort for check-in. In the afternoon, you’ll have the opportunity to explore numerous charming Thai villages, characterized by their distinctive row of pillar houses. You’ll also witness picturesque rice fields and experience the daily life of the local people. It promises to be an unforgettable sightseeing experience.
As night falls, you’ll have the chance to enjoy dinner accompanied by a traditional musical performance performed by local dancers.
Day 3: Mai Chau to Ninh Binh
Afterward, we’ll head to Ninh Binh. As you leave Mai Chau, you’ll have the opportunity to pass by the historic Ho Chi Minh trail, a road built during wartime to facilitate the delivery of supplies to the North Vietnamese army in the South. We’ll arrive at a restaurant in Ninh Binh around 12:30 PM, where you can savor local cuisine.
Following lunch, you’ll have a few hours to explore the Galaxy Cave on a Sampan boat. This unique experience will take you through the mountains and across different districts by boat. After your boat excursion, you can check in at the hotel and then embark on a cycling tour around Tam Coc town to discover the charming villages of the Red River Delta.
Day 4: Ninh Binh – Halong Bay.
Begin your day with a refreshing morning immersed in nature. Take a leisurely walk or join a Tai Chi session to rejuvenate yourself. Afterward, hop in the car for a scenic 3-hour drive to Halong Bay, where you’ll have the opportunity to experience the epitome of luxury on a splendid boat.
As your boat cruises through the pristine waters, you’ll be captivated by the majestic mountains that surround you. Halong Bay is often likened to heaven on earth, and you’ll understand why. Your arrival in Halong Bay is scheduled for midday, where you’ll promptly check in to your private room aboard the spacious boat. Each room features its own bathroom and bedroom for your comfort.
Throughout your journey, delectable meals, including breakfast, lunch, and dinner, will be served on the boat. Additionally, you’ll have the chance to swim at the beach, embark on kayaking adventures to explore stunning rock formations, and even partake in a hiking excursion to discover a grand cave adorned with beautiful stalactites and stalagmites.
Prepare for an unforgettable journey as you immerse yourself in the wonders of Halong Bay during this enchanting overnight cruise.
Day 5: Halong Bay – Hanoi
After a beautiful Tai Chi session on the sundeck of the cruise early in the morning, the boat will continue sailing around before heading back to the harbor. You can enjoy brunch on board and then check out before lunch, preparing to return to Hanoi. If you’re not in a rush to get to the airport, there are some extra activities in Halong Bay to consider. You can visit the Halong Museum or, on the way back, explore a traditional handcraft pottery village called Phu Lang. Phu Lang village is located next to the Red River and is famous for its urns and jars. Here, you can witness the intricate process of crafting these items from clay and gain insights into the vibrant working life of the local people.
Upon your return to Hanoi in the evening, you have the option to stay one more night in Hanoi or catch a flight to your next destination.
